NEWS RELEASELocal Hospital Recognized Nationally as “One of the Best”October 27, 2003 Cozby-Germany Hospital, Grand Saline was identified as one of the best hospitals in the nation in the fall 2003 edition of “Money” magazine, administrator Bill Rowton reports. In order to try and give some 5,000 hospitals nationwide a report card, HealthGrades, which can be found on the Internet at www.healthgrades.com, used data on 20 different diagnoses from Medicare billings to compare the mortality rates of patients. HealthGrades identified the 5 top hospitals in each of 5 regions for each of the 20 diagnoses. Cozby-Germany hospital was among the top 5 in the Great Plains region for caring for patients with the diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia. The hospital gained this recognition because it received five star ratings in each of the three areas graded. “Money” magazine published the report in a special edition dedicated to help the public find quality health care. Rowton said the hospital was contacted by a “Money” representative a couple of months ago and given the good news. The representative asked for the names of the three physicians on the hospital staff that cared for the most patients with aspiration pneumonia. Mr. Rowton said he referred the representative to Vicki Sanders, the hospital medical records director. Dr. Richard Ingrim, Dr. Shafi Khalid, and Dr. Warner Massey, were named in the magazine as the three doctors who provided the outstanding care. “It just goes to show you that bigger isn’t necessarily better,” Rowton stated. “Throughout my 34 years in the hospital business I have argued this misconception. I’ve always contended there are some things smaller hospitals do better than big hospitals. It’s great that someone has come up with a review that supports that argument,” he concluded.
